Effect of pigmenting substances on the color of two nanohybrides with and without polishing

Abstract

Objective: The study was to evaluate the effects of different pigmenting substances on the color of two nanohybrid resins with and without polishing. Material and methods: The elaboration of 120 disc-shaped samples (8mm in diameter and 3 mm thick); 60 specimens of resin A and 60 specimens of resin B. The samples were elaborated manually a sample holder of stainless steel by means of the incremental technique. After that, the samples were divided into two groups: 60 samples (30 of resin A and 30 of resin B) that were polished and 60 samples (30 of resin A and 30 of resin B) that were not polished. For the polishing process, coarse, medium, fine and extra-fine Soflex grit discs were used respectively, and finally the polishing was complemented with a felt and diamond-coated universal powder. The samples were then ordered in three groups, each corresponding to a pigment and submerged for 1 hour daily for 28 days. After the submersion hour, the samples were washed and brushed in order to simulate the dental cleaning and subsequently they were kept in their respective container with artificial saliva at 37°C in order to simulate the temperature of the oral cavity. The color was taken by visual perspective at the first day, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days and 28 days, the samples were photographed in the respective times. Results: there is surface pigmentation in the two nanohybrid resins with and without polishing after being exposed to different pigmenting substances, determining that the groups that presented polishing took longer to pigment compared to the groups that did not present it. Conclusions: chicha morada as a pigmenting substance with less effect.
